ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

(Preface)

Accessibility is a human right, not an act of charity.

The right to free development of personality, the right to self-determination - to a self-determined life - the right to privacy, the right to participation and the right to equality are human rights.

Accessibility – especially digital accessibility – is the basis and prerequisite for respecting, implementing and perceiving these human rights.

Accessibility, data privacy protection, and facts come first.

Accessibility and data privacy protection are the absolute basic requirements of every website. No website should be online until these requirements are met.

Although there are no alternative facts, only facts, facts do allow for interpretation and discussion. However, participation and accessibility no longer need to be interpreted or discussed, but consistently implemented.

Fakten, Fakten, Fakten und immer an die Leser denken.
"
Facts, facts, facts, and always think of the readers."

The second part of this well-known motto, "always think of the readers," usually includes words like "target group," "need," "interest," "understandable," "informative," and "relevant."

But the concepts of "accessibility," "barrier-free," or "people with disabilities" are largely ignored. Search engines also find very little in this context. Readers - users - with disabilities are still often forgotten and excluded from participation.

In the digital world, it is so easy to realize participation and the fundamental principle for all readers:

Fakten, Fakten, Fakten und immer an die Leser denken.
"
Facts, facts, facts, and always think of the readers."

(This quote is the motto of the news magazine "Focus", founded in 1993; made famous by its founding editor-in-chief Helmut Markwort.)

Attitude, honor and dignity

Accessibility and data protection are not only legally required, but also a matter of decency, character, and attitude – a matter of honor and dignity!

The prohibition of discrimination requires that the specific situation of a person with a disability – or more accurately, “people who are made disabled” – be taken into account in such a way that their opportunity for participation is equal to that of a person without a disability.

Digital accessibility means that at least all content - everything - can be perceived either visually - with the eyes - or audibly - with the ears.

This is the absolute minimum and standard, as there are still people who unfortunately remain excluded, including people with deafblindness. TWN offers separate solutions for this.

TWN is not legally obligated to provide accessibility. However, the internet site is accessible (with a few exceptions, including, unfortunately, for people with deafblindness). All content on this internet site is perceptible either visually or audibly.

ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

This accessibility statement applies to the entire internet site.

Status: 23.09.2025

REQUIREMENTS, CONFORMITY STATUS, IMPLEMENTATION

The internet site meets accessibility requirements.

The following standards and guidelines apply:
Harmonized European Standard (EN) 301 549, Version 3.2.1
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Version 2.2, Levels A, AA and AAA

Protecting user privacy, including all accessibility features.

Data protection is highest priority.

This internet site is largely accessible (with a few exceptions, including, unfortunately, for people with deafblindness). Separate solutions are offered for these individuals. Feedback may be requested.

All content can be perceived either visually - with the eyes - or acoustically - with the ears.

Use of the internet site with assistive technologies without any loss of information.

Where necessary, provide barrier-free identification or authentication, including through alternatives.

Security functions are accessible without barriers.

The selectable (“clickable”) menu item “Accessibility Statement” as readable text is at the bottom of every page of this internet site. Additionally, there is a selectable (“clickable”) pictogram of a wheelchair user - the International Symbol of Access (ISA) according to ISO 7001 (AC 001). Both the "Accessibility Statement" menu item and the wheelchair user pictogram link back to this page with the detailed accessibility statement.

Although the accessibility statement concerns digital accessibility on this internet site, the "wheelchair user" pictogram was used for simplicity because it is the most widely recognized worldwide. All other pictograms (ISA) are less well-known or only recognized regionally.

IMPROVING ACCESSIBILITY

To achieve and improve accessibility and usability, the following measures, among others, were taken:

Accessibility is a mandatory principle for all employees and all measures.

Training and further education for employees on accessibility.

This internet site was created by employees with multiple severe disabilities (a so-called degree of disability of 100; with various so-called disability markers). Helpful suggestions and feedback are gratefully received.

Testing by people with various disabilities,

Independent, external accessibility audit.

Automated and manual tests.

TEXT

Digital, machine-readable text is the most accessible form of information.

Therefore, photos, audio, and videos were largely omitted.

Digital, machine-readable text is the easiest form of accessible information for most people, provided the necessary technical requirements and usability are met.

Information in digital, machine-readable text form is generally the easiest to access for people with visual impairments or blindness, or for those who are illiterate, and it overcomes language barriers through automatic translation.

Digital transmission and page rendering are also fastest with text, thus reaching people with basic or older technology or under less than ideal conditions.

Digital, machine-readable text can be enlarged.
Digital, machine-readable text can be read aloud automatically.
Digital, machine-readable text can be translated automatically.
Digital, machine-readable text is transferred the fastest and easiest way.

Many things are becoming increasingly colorful, animated, cluttered, and overloaded - but not more information, facts, or quality. Not at TWN. TWN doesn't move with the times. It could be called a purist, minimalist style. It is, in the truest sense of the word, simply simple, clear, and therefore largely accessible - and that's what matters most.

MENU ITEMS / LINKS

The menu items or links are displayed in capital letters and as machine-readable words (text, read-aloud function).

When the mouse cursor touches the mouse, menu items or links are displayed underlined.

Only machine-readable words (text, text-to-speech function) were used for the menu items and links; no photos, images, or graphics were used. Therefore, all menu items and links are machine-readable (text, text-to-speech function).

For improved visual structure, the menu items and links are also displayed in dark blue on a white background. However, color recognition is not necessary here either, as all menu items and links are presented in capital letters and as machine-readable text (read-aloud function).

Even in the text-to-speech function, menu items and links are displayed in capital letters. Each menu item is announced with the prefix "Menu Item" and described in readable black text on a white background. This description is not visible in the standard display; it is only visible in the text-to-speech function. The menu item itself then appears immediately in capital letters.

Since all menu items and links are displayed as machine-readable words (text), they are also read aloud. If this is considered redundant, feedback is requested. However, the majority of users have found this to be a useful feature.

To avoid using too many different font sizes or additional colors, some headings and particularly important points are also displayed in capital letters. However, these are not menu items or links and therefore not selectable ("clickable"). They can be distinguished from menu items and links when the mouse hovers over them, as only the menu items and links appear underlined. Since these are headings or particularly important points, this additional visual feature has not been considered a hindrance so far, even though they are not selectable.

VISUALLY

Full, barrier-free access to this internet site is guaranteed for people with visual impairments or blindness.

Digital, machine-readable text is the most accessible format. Therefore, almost all content consists of text in machine-readable form - not images. Photos, videos, graphics, and symbols have been largely omitted.

Alternative text is provided for any photos, symbols, and graphics. Alternative text options are also provided for non-text content that do not require visual acuity.

Speech Output

With a text-to-speech function, the entire content can be read aloud.

The built-in text-to-speech function in most internet browsers is sufficient for this purpose, without the need for any additional extensions, installations, or programs. For example, in Firefox (Portable Edition), this can be activated by pressing the F9 key or clicking the "page" icon (rectangle) on the right side of the URL bar.

Other assistive technologies can also be used for speech output.

The audio output can be paused or stopped.

The speed of the audio output can be adjusted.

The volume of the audio output can be adjusted.

Videos contain an audio track that describes the visual content (audio description).

Text Recognition

The highest contrast is easily achievable with just black and white - no colors.

Therefore, with the exception of dark blue, colored text and backgrounds have been avoided. However, menu items, some headings, and quotes in dark blue contribute to better structure for the typical, purely visual perception.

Otherwise, the best contrast is achieved with black text on a white background or white text on a black background (color inversion).

Easily readable and recognizable font, size, and style.

Text and content can be enlarged or reduced (no fonts as images or photos).

Text is displayed with sufficient spacing and paragraphs.

The display is customizable, including settings in the browser and / or operating system and / or assistive technologies.

Structured pages and text layout with meaningful headings.

No time limits.

Tactile output of the texts via an externally connected Braille display is possible.

Color Recognition

Color recognition is not required.

With the exception of dark blue, no other colors are used.

The text is black on a white background.

Therefore, when the color is reversed, the text is white on a black background.

Menu items, some headings, and quotations are dark blue for better visual structure. However, all menu items, headings and quotations are readable text. Therefore, color recognition is not necessary here either.

The principle is high contrast through legible text in black on a white background. This principle is fundamental. However, should additional colors be used in exceptional cases, such as when incorporating current information, color-independent alternatives will be provided for all color information.
